Building a shared future for all life

On May 22, 2022, we celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity. This date was established by the United Nations with the purpose of spread the importance of biological diversity, due to the value of the immense number of species of living beings and ecosystems, which are rapidly decreasing due to human activity, for which reason education and awareness at all levels is a priority to avoid this threat.

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is the international figure for “the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of genetic resources”. Its governing body is the Conference of the Parties (COP) and it was ratified by the governments (or parties) that make it up.

The CBD is the creator of the slogan “Building a shared future for all life”, with which it seeks “promote the idea that biodiversity – where ecosystems and nature provide solutions to climate, health problems or food and water security – is the basis on which we can build back better.”

This message aims to inculcate the defense of biodiversity at an international level and is supported by the social media, where everyone can participate in the campaign to publicize this celebration with the hashtags #ForNature, #BiodiversityDay and #Biodiversity.
